Auditions for Concert Choir and Chamber Singers are usually held on several days after school near the end of the school year. Students audition for both choirs at the same time, and the Director determines which students are qualified for Chamber Singers and for Concert Choir.  Auditions for 7/8 Vocal Ensemble are also held near the end of the school year.

Current choir students are expected to prepare an Italian aria (solo), demonstrate various scales, tonal memory and sight reading. Students new to the program may sing a song of their choice. The Director evaluates blend with other vocal parts, as well as the quality of individual sound.

Although vocal quality is a primary consideration, blend, attitude in class, attendance and the ability to work with others are also considered in selection for the auditioned choirs.

Each year the needs of the auditioned choirs change as students graduate. This affects the number of openings available for each part in each choir. An excellent singer may not be selected because there are not enough openings for his or her vocal part that year. Students who audition and are not selected for Concert Choir or for Chamber Singers are encouraged to audition again the following year.
