Ensembles

There are six ensembles in the LCHS Choral Music Department:

LCHS 7-8 Womens Ensemble

7/8 Women’s Ensemble

This choir is open to all women (treble voice singers) in 7th and 8th grades; no audition is required. This ensemble focuses on proper vocal technique, choral performance practices, and music theory and history, and it will explore choral literature from all eras and styles. Specific attention is given to music written for women’s voices and vocal development. The 7/8 Women’s Ensemble performs at the three all-ensemble concerts with the other choirs, as well as in festivals and/or competitions and the 7/8 Pops Concerts. In addition to an annual trip to Disneyland, a performance tour and/or music enrichment trip is possible

LCHS 7/8 Vocal Ensemble

7/8 Vocal Ensemble

This intermediate-advanced choral ensemble is open to male and female students through audition only.   The 7/8 Vocal Ensemble performs at the three all-ensemble concerts with the other choirs, as well as in festivals and/or competitions and the 7/8 Pops Concerts.In addition to an annual trip to Disneyland, the choir will travel on at least one over-night tour a year.

LCHS 9/12 Women’s Ensemble

9/12 Women’s Ensemble

This choir is open to all women (treble voice singers) in 9th-12th grades; no audition is required. This ensemble focuses on proper vocal technique, choral performance practices, and music theory and history, and it will explore choral literature from all eras and styles. Specific attention is given to music written for women’s voices and vocal development. The 9/12 Women’s Ensemble performs at the four all-ensemble concerts with the other choirs, as well as in festivals and/or competitions. Typically, this choir will not tour.

LCHS Men’s Ensemble

Men’s Ensemble

This choir is open to all men (bass clef singers) in 7th-12th grades; no audition is required. This ensemble focuses on proper vocal technique, choral performance practices, and music theory and history, and it will explore choral literature from all eras and styles. Specific attention is given to music written for men’s voices and vocal development. It meets during 0 period (beginning at 7 a.m.) Many of the men also sing in either Concert Choir or Chamber Singers. Typically, this choir will not tour.

LCHS Concert Choir

Concert Choir

This is a co-ed, auditioned choir made up primarily of 10th-12th graders, although 9th graders may be selected by the Director. Students in this advanced, large ensemble will learn about proper vocal technique, choral performance practices, music theory and history and will explore choral literature from all eras and styles. This choir performs at the four all-ensemble concerts, as well as in festivals and/or competitions. This group tours annually and may tour with the Chamber Singers. The Concert Choir may combine with other LCHS Choral Ensembles to present major works for large choirs.

LCHS Chamber Singers

Chamber Singers

This is a co-ed, auditioned choir made up of 10th-12th graders. Students in this advanced, small ensemble will learn about proper vocal technique, choral performance practices, music theory and history, and will explore choral literature from all eras and styles. This group performs at the all-ensemble concerts and also presents two additional concerts. This group tours annually and may tour with the Concert Choir. Chamber Singers have many extra performances, especially during the holiday season, and also attend a Fall retreat for musical growth and bonding purposes. This choir requires the time and effort of an AP class.
